Pony Swag Prime

I would like to use this week's post to inform (and advertise to) you about a very ambitious project that incorporates many people in the Brony community (including myself). It's called Pony Swag Prime. What is this, you ask? Well, allow me to explain it:

Pony Swag Prime is a collaborative rap project that is based on the original rap Pony Swag, written and performed by Swagberg and Maros. Pony Swag is a very popular song among our community, and it has inspired many people to write their own verses for it. This inspiration led to a 17-minute long version of the song called the Pony Swag Megamix that featured many big names in the Brony fandom. After the Megamix was posted, however, a lot of people were disappointed because either they didn't make a verse for it in time or they didn't know about it beforehand. Because of this, another person in the community came up with Pony Swag Prime. It essentially has the same idea as the Megamix, but it has many more people making verses for it, including yours truly.

The deadline for verses has passed and the final version is being compiled as we speak. When it is done, I'll make a dedicated post for it.

Hybrid Post #1

I've decided that for this blog to have an even amount of news on either side of the spectrum (Both Ponies and Slenderman), I'll need to combine the two into one post each time. Thus, these 'Hybrid Posts' are born.

First off, Slenderman stuff. I've realized that not a lot of people know what exactly the Slenderman Mythos are. I would like to take a moment to explain them a bit.

The Slender Man (commonly dubbed Slenderman) is a mythological creature created by the Something Awful Forums in 2009. It was introduced as a tall, humanoid figure in a suit, with no discernible facial features. In some pictures users posted, he also had tentacle-like appendages coming out of his back. He is known to stalk children (And more recently, High School to College age students), and either lead them out of their homes (to which they are never seen again) or kill them. When stalking older individuals, however, he tends to stand near them in public or in open areas where the victim can see him. This continues until either the victim is so mentally weak that he can easily get to them, or they kill themselves. He has also been associated with fire, and is known to show up in places shortly before they burn down.

What does this have to do with anything I'm interested in, you ask? Well, some talented individuals with video cameras set out shortly after Slenderman was created, and made several popular YouTube horror series surrounding the Mythos. The three most prominent ones (Which are linked in the sidebar) are Marble Hornets, TribeTwelve, and EverymanHYBRID.

Marble Hornets centers around a character named Jay who receives a large number of tapes from his filmmaker friend Alex Kralie, before Alex moves away and is never heard from again. The tapes contain mostly raw footage from Alex's student film Marble Hornets, but some tapes contain... other things. This series is easily the most popular of the three, and the second season just finished last month.

TribeTwelve centers around Noah Maxwell, a college student living in Florida. The YouTube account was originally created for a project about the twelve tribes of Israel, shortly before Noah's teacher canceled the project entirely. Shortly after this, Noah is informed that his cousin and only close friend, Milo, died of a medication overdose. He decides to use the channel as a memorial for his cousin, and begins to upload the only footage he has of him and Milo to the account. However, Noah begins to notice something else on the footage. This series has become the second most popular as of late, mostly due to the growing convolution of EverymanHYBRID's plot.

EverymanHYBIRD centers around Jeff, Vince, and Evan, three friends living in New Jersey who set out to make a fitness series for people on a budget. Being fans of pop culture and horror, they decide to put a fake Slenderman in the background of their videos in order to add a bit of an 'easter egg' effect to the show. What they don't realize, however, is that Slendy himself doesn't take very kindly to that. This series is third in popularity, mostly due to a very spread out and somewhat hard to follow plot. I myself still think it has a rather high entertainment value, however.

"Ballad Of The Brony"

A recent news post on Equestria Daily (The site is linked on the sidebar) linked to a series of videos titled 'The Ballad of the Brony'. It is essentially a mini-documentary explaining us Bronies in detail, as well as giving some history about the show itself. It is very well done, and it explains the Brony community much better than I ever could. If any of you reading this are curious as to what exactly draws people like me into this show, I would definitely recommend giving it a watch.

Time for Ponies.

I'd like to take the beginning of this post to explain a bit more about this whole 'My Little Pony' thing. If you were not already aware, there is an expanding community on the internet of people like me, who enjoy the show despite being outside of the target demographic. We call ourselves 'Bronies' (Contrary to popular belief, the name has nothing to do with the /b/ section of 4chan). We're easily one of the most creative fanbases on the internet, creating wonderful music, art, and fiction all inspired by the show. Despite the constant stream of hate we get by pretty much every other person on the planet, we are strong advocates of tolerance and acceptance among all people.

With that out of the way, let's get in to some “news”.

The newest episode of the show aired on Saturday (You may view it here, if you so please). Season 2, Episode 8 is about Rainbow Dash's struggle to maintain her status as the hero of Ponyville, after being challenged by a masked stranger. This is the second Rainbow Dash themed episode in a row this season, and unlike the first (which I wrote about in great detail, but Blogger deleted the post and it's not exactly news anymore), I really don't have a lot of analysis or speculation about aspects of the episode. Also, while I enjoyed this episode, I don't think it goes too high on my list of favorites. I'm not saying I didn't like it (There hasn't been an episode I didn't like), I just don't think it competes with episodes like Luna Eclipsed, May The Best Pet Win, and Lesson Zero.

Now, with all of the semi-serious news business out of the way, IT IS TIME FOR AN EPIC PONY RAVE PARTY.

Things to be Thankful for

I know I said I would be blogging about ponies next time (And I do have a pony news post prepared that I will post later today), but today our benefactors have entrusted me with the task of informing you, the reader, of things that I am thankful for, in celebration of Thanksgiving.

- I'm thankful for my family and my friends, no matter how few they may be.
- I'm thankful for the fact that my parents both have stable jobs, possibly the only thing that keeps my family off the streets or in a shelter right now.
- Though this may sound strange, I'm thankful for My Little Pony. The show and the community are part of the few sources of joy in my life.
- As I mentioned above, I'm thankful for the Brony community. They are easily the friendliest, most creative, and most welcoming internet community I have ever been a part of.
- Last, and most importantly, I'm thankful for the fact that I'm alive and in relatively good health. Obviously, I would be dead if I weren't.

I do believe you have stumbled upon my blog. Let me be the first to apologize for what you are about to see.

I've decided that for this blog to be something I enjoy running, it would have to involve two hobbies of mine: The Slender Man Mythos, and My Little Pony. Again, I apologize.

I'm mainly going to use this as a news site to update on things happening in both the universe of ponies, and the universe of popular internet horror. This means I'm going to be linking to videos I expect you, the reader, to watch. Another apology.

Let's get right into it then, shall we? I'll start with some Slender Man news, in the realm of TribeTwelve. First, I would recommend those unfamiliar with the series to check out the YouTube channel (linked on the side) before continuing, because the rest of this post will make no sense otherwise.

But then when I calmed down, I started to actually think about the video itself. If you've read any of Observer's answers on Noah's Formspring (I think it's linked on the channel, so go there), you already understand all that he said. It seems to serve mainly as an informative video for those who only watch the videos. Either way, it's still a good video. They seem to increase in quality with each one, which is good.

Now, on to some speculation about some other aspects of the video:
Observer posted this on Noah's channel a few days after 'repossessing' him (the title is HAPPYBIRTHDAY because the day Noah was taken was his birthday, November 11th). It also alludes to other members of his collective, four of which he named on Noah's Formspring page: Mr. Scars, Deadhead, Persolus, and Cursor. There is also text in the description that may suggest that Noah is Deadhead's new 'vessel'.

Noah has since returned and intends to post his footage of what happened before his disappearance once he calms down.

Well, I think that's enough confusion for a first post, eh? Next time, I'll be posting about ponies, whether you want me to or not.
